Coaching Staff

The Triton Water Polo coaching staff includes former USA National Team Members, NCAA National Champions, College and High School All-Americans, and current local Varsity High School Coaches. Each of our coaches works hard to ensure that their players develop the skills needed to be successful in water polo and, most importantly, as individuals. Our coaches take pride in building individual athletic skills and team concepts such as leadership and communication to ensure our athletes progress and participate in all age groups and skill levels. We believe in building a greater Tri-Valley Water Polo community and strive to connect our players, parents, and coaches for the betterment of our players' bright futures.

Training Structure

Athletes will participate in a total of 5 practices per week (10 Practice Hours). Practice weeks will combine Water Polo, Swimming, and Strength Training (Cardio & Weights) Workouts. Athletes can skip one practice per week, preferably swimming and weights. Practices will be structured with individual development in skills with station work or structured based team practices. During the Spring quarter, HS teams will have three days of Swimming and two days of Water Polo and Weights.

Triton Performance Camps X InstaCoach

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with InstaCoach. This locally based sports tech company connects youth athletes with access to training and instruction offered by current D1 athletes.

Once a month, you will have all access to our Triton Performance Camps which is included in your monthly membership. This will be a 4-hour camp where you can work on specific aspects of your game in small groups with some of the best college athletes in the country under the guidance and familiarity of your coaching staff.

Private Lessons

We are dedicated to ensuring that our athletes have ample opportunities to improve their skills by offering private lessons at the availability of our coaching staff. The club will facilitate pool time and equipment and connect you with a coach to work with. This can include in and out-of-the-water instruction working on various topics from specialized 2M and 2MD work to outside shooting and goalie workouts.

Team Training Trips

Once every six months, we will take our competition teams on a Co-Op training trip with another club. Teams will scrimmage and train with local clubs for 2 -  3 days and participate in team building and college visits. This is a great opportunity to meet new players and clubs across the state and check out colleges. Locations could be as close as Santa Cruz and Monterey to Santa Barbara and Carlsbad. The trip will be announced two months in advance and invoiced separately. The invoice will include all transportation, hotel, and dining. These trips are optional.

Italy Trip 2023

Every other year, competition team athletes will be given the oppurtunity to travel to Europe to train with some of the best clubs in the world and explore the local culture. These trips are typically 10 - 12 days after Junior Olympics before school starts. This trip would replace the Maui Invitational for that year. The next planned trip is July 2023. Athletes can make monthly contributions for the trip with monthly dues. In some cases, we will combine with another club with like-minded development programs to ensure a quality learning experience for our athletes. This trip is optional.

Team Gear

Through our new partnership with Ducko, As a Gold & Blue Competition Team member, you will be given the following team uniform. There will be seasonal stores where you can purchase more items. You will be asked to wear your game suit and polo on all game days and team travel.

Try-Outs & Player Intake Process

Triton Competition teams are limited to 15 Gold and 18 Blue rostered athletes at a time. There will not be a third Competition Team to protect the quality of player instruction and training unless there are enough resources to support this, which is voted on at the beginning of each year.

Team rosters will be locked during the Winter and Summer quarters. Once rosters are unlocked, if a spot is open, you will be notified and asked to come to try out 2 - 3 practices before making a final decision. Team selection is 100% at the discretion of our coaching staff.

Factors THAT DO go into the decision process are as follows:

  • Commitment to attend a minimum of 4 practices per week and the ability to attend a minimum of 5 travel tournaments per year.
  • Athletic experience demonstrated in practices and scrimmages.
  • Coachability and chemistry with the coaching staff and teammates.

Factors that DO NOT go into the decision process are as follows:

  • Prior/Current Club Affiliation
  • Relationships with coaches such as past coaches, relatives, family friends, etc.
  • Previous playing experience

Athletes who have played with the club from August 1st, 2021 - July 29th, 2022, will be prioritized for these roster spots. You do not need to try out. Once the Summer 2022 teams have been rostered, open registration will be made available. If you are interested in joining one of our competition teams, please fill out this form below, and a staff member will reach out.
