Coach Derick brings a unique blend of athleticism, military discipline, and passion for water sports to Triton Aquatics. Overcoming personal challenges in the water, his journey from a newcomer to water polo and swimming to now leading the Girls' program showcases his dedication and growth in these sports.
Having excelled physically during four years in the United States Marine Corps, Coach Derick found a passion for swimming at Las Positas Community College. Under Coach Jason Craighead's guidance, he not only competed but also embraced water polo. His journey includes playing for San Francisco State University and Triton Masters, showcasing his commitment to mastering aquatic sports.
As a coach, Derick started as an assistant to Boys Director Alex Lazzereschi, contributing to the success of various programs. Notably, his coaching highlights include achieving a top-16 position in the 14u Boys Gold Division at KAP7 and guiding his girls to the Junior Olympics in the program's inaugural year.
Derick's coaching influence extends beyond club programs. He currently serves as the Head Coach of the Girls' program at California High School, bringing the team to the playoffs and making a significant impact on their performance. Additionally, he has accepted the Head Coach position for California High's Swim & Dive team, showcasing his versatility and leadership in high school athletics.
Beyond coaching, Derick's involvement as Triton's team photographer and co-marketer demonstrates his diverse skill set. With a background in design and marketing, he contributes to the club's branding and promotion.
